COLUMBIA FALLS — It was a special evening in Columbia Falls as Habitat for Humanity of Flathead Valley held a home dedication ceremony for newly finished affordable townhouses on the corner of 6th avenue west and 8th Street West.

Habitat for Humanity Flathead is celebrating its first groundbreaking in Whitefish in 15 years as construction starts on a pair of three-bedroom townhomes on Whitefish Avenue.

The project is the first in the nonprofit’s Grounded in Whitefish campaign that aims to build 10 homes in Whitefish each year for a decade. The group currently has 10 houses under construction in Columbia Falls. 

The Kalispell Planning Commission on Tuesday backed Habitat for Humanity of Flathead Valley’s proposed mixed-income neighborhood in North Kalispell.

It’s part of an ambitious project called “Grounded in Whitefish” that aims to build 100 new affordable homes in the city over the next 10 years.

Habitat for Humanity of Flathead Valley is working to provide more affordable workforce housing in the Flathead.

Proposed 21.32-acre mixed-income subdivision off Four Mile Drive featuring 95 residential units (townhomes, cottages, and single-family houses) aimed at the local workforce.

Community members can learn more about the organization's plan to build 10 homes every year for 10 years at an open house event from 5 to 7 p.m. on June 10 at the O’Shaughnessy Center

The Columbia Falls City Council last week approved the conversion of a city baseball park at Railroad Street to an affordable housing project.

Habitat for Humanity is proposing building six homes on the 1.3-acre lot, with an approximately 17,000-square-foot park.
